Time for an update for Auntie Shelbs. It's been a long time since I've blogged. I just updated all the way back to my trip out to Virginia/DC to be a nanny for Shae and Jono. You'll have to go to the side bar to see the posts of NYC and VA!
WOW! Can't believe I am a college student........ and even how now I have just finished my first semester! Absolutely CRAZY. I feel way too old. And yes, of course, due to my busy schedule I have put blogging on hold. But now I have a nice three week break for christmas and plenty of extra time for blogging! So here goes an update on my first semester at college.
First off, I have to be honest. This first semester of college was probably one of the hardest transitions and times of my life. It's not necessarily all fun and games like everyone cracks college up to be. It's intense with lots of HARD work. I am so grateful for the opportunity I have to go to college though and BYU is a wonderful school and I learned so much this semester. I love all of my classes and teachers. My roommates were amazing and I am so thankful I decided to live with my friend from High School, Camrie Smith and her cousin Berlyn Flake from Arizona. We are all very close now! Just these big life changes and decisions threw me for a whirlwind coupled with my anxiety...like choosing a major, registering for classes, moving out, leaving old friends behind, starting college classes, and what a surprise- the big mission announcement. It has been a very full and overwhelming time of life but I can't even explain how grateful I am for my amazingly supportive family. Especially my mom who is my hero and best friend. I have grown so close to her at this time. Anyway, enough rambling and I'm not trying to sound like a pity party, but it's good for me to write how I feel. I am an AVID journal writer and go through journals like crazzzzzzy. Love my journals. And I'm glad I can use my blog as a journal when I get around to it! So here's a look into the highlights of my first semester at the b-y-ZOO.
A little collage of our apartment. We live in a place called wyview! It's really nice, clean and quiet. Not a ton of social activity, but it's super chill. We ride the shuttle up to campus which is really convenient! Our apartment is super cute too! Of course i brought tons of pictures with me to remember all of the people I love:) Sometimes I catch myself just looking through all my pictures. So many good memories.
Couldn't stay away from high school and these two for too long! Hahaha:) There was a high school football game close to Provo so me, Camrie, Jake Parry and Richard Haddock took a trip back to high school! It was fun and yes, i will admit, I miss high school.... well just mostly these two.
This was kinda my tribute to high school and our good old matching days. I miss chan and linds SO much, but we still have so many good times when I come back, which I do very often:) I don't have as much fun with anyone but these two. CLASSIC times.
Over labor day weekend we took the boat out for one last time! So fun. I miss living with these three cuties. I love how excited they still get to see me when i come home from college. They immediately ask if I have to go back. I miss them!
One weekend I was here I got to go to Charley's soccer game! It was so fun to see her play! She is growing up WAY too fast!
Me and Camrie totally went through a cinnamon bear phase. This big ole bag lasted us weeks! It was a stellar find.
Nothing better than a little pit stop to mickey dees with our friend Ronald.
There is this sweet snow shack by the dorms that we got some sno cones at.
One of my favorite things has been the temple! Me and camrie have been going once a week and i LOVE it. I am so grateful to live so close by a temple in provo and in bountiful! Jake took me and camrie one morning!
Me and Aud have had a lot of fun taking classes together and spending lots of time together. One day we took up a "disability challenge" they had on campus to experience what it would be like to be disabled. It was really cool but really exhausting! Hahahaha but we did find out it brought us lots of attention. More boys talked to us and offered to open doors for us than any other day!
Learning to cook and fend for ourselves has been quite the experience for us! Me and camrie have had lots of fun baking cookies and banana bread! Bring on the freshmen 15!!
The football games were a blast to go to. Yes, just hanging out with the same old kids from high school. Hahah
For Katelyn St. John's (goes to UVU) 19th birthday we went classic skating at the disco hour. It was a blast. A pretty hilarious night for me and camrie as two seniors in high school hit on us. Hahaha YIKES. Abort, Abort.
My one and only date this semester. BAHA. And of course it was a planned group blind date that maddie blake set up. It was pretty fun. We went laser tagging at nickel city and then got ice cream at yogurtland!
Homecoming week was one of my favorites! They had several different activites that week and Berlyn, Aud, one of my friends from my biology class (Kaitlin), and I hiked the "Y" for the big homecoming lighting of the Y on the hill. It was a hard hike but SO worth it. So funny as someone brought up a cardboard cutout of Mitt Romney. We also got a picture with the BYU mascot, Cosmo the cougar. It was a very eventful night!
Septemeber 27th was National Sister's Day! Reminded me how grateful I am for my amazing sisters:) Love them so much! They are my second moms and I am so thankful for their incredible examples. I feel so blessed this year to have developed greater relationships with both of them. Living for Rachael and her family for 9 months while they built their house and staying with shae for 5 weeks in Virginia during the summer. I will cherish the memories I've had with them and their kids this year! LOVE YOU RAY AND SHAE BOBS!
The dreaded wisdom teeth. Got them out in October. Not gunna lie, it didn't seem like it would be so bad and I felt ok the first few days being numb but going back to school the next week was ROUGH. The fab paid me a visit and brought me a shake:) Love them. Oh and gotta love the frozen veggies wrapped around my cheeks. I felt like Marley from the christmas carol with that blue band around my head! Haha
Conference Weekend! I loved being home to see the BEAUTIFUL fall colors of the canyon. I know I'm home when I come up over the hill and see the breathtaking beauty of the canyon. I am so grateful for where I live. Audrey also came up with me for the weekend. We made a fresh apple pie with mom and went for a walk in the canyon! I love the fall:)
Me and Camrie got pretty clever this year with our various Halloween costumes. On the actual day of Halloween we were twins!
For our ward party we were santa... and a dog. Hahaha
And for our "wyview" party Jane joined us as a dead tourist and I was an M&M and Camrie was a pumpkin!
I went with Audrey and Camrie to my first BYU basketball game. Because they got so many points the said anybody who went to the game could get free ice cream at Yogurtland! The line wasn't too long and it was a fun adventure.
It was so nice to take a little break from school to come home for a little Thanksgiving BOOYA! Pie night is always a classic tradition that we kept going even with our small group! These three kids are like my little siblings! Love them so much:)
Me, Ray and John tried out Black Friday shopping for our first time. BAHAHA it was quite the experience. Everything went great at walmart and target... then we decided to try out KOHL'S. BIG mistake. I'm telling you standing in a line for an hour with 12 pillows and no shopping cart is NOT fun. Hahah me and rach luckily left John in line for awhile while we took a break and sat in some nice massage chairs! We did get some great deals and plenty of awesome stuff for Ray's new house- which is my second home and is absolutely adorable!
My two best guy friends got their mission calls in November! Kinda funny/awkward as they are also dating my two best girl friends- Chandler and Lindsey! haha Mike Yates is going to Manchester, England and leaves on March 7th- my birthday/ the day his brother with down syndrome billy died. So cool for him and his family. James Taylor is going to Lyon, France and he leaves on his birthday, April 3rd! Such a cool day for the both of them and I'm so glad I could be there! Can't believe they are already preparing to serve! So grateful for them.
Lindsey's Birthday was also in November and I was grateful to come home for the weekend to celebrate it with the fab! We set up a pretty sweet scavengar hunt for her to all our favorite stores, restaurants, and places! Then we had lunch at Chilis! It was a fun, successful day!
The first weekend in december was the first drill competition! It was so crazy to be in the audience this time! So fun to watch though and I even helped back stage with Chan and Linds! Me, Hannah, Bri, Mike and James all went to support Chan and Linds! Had to of course get our fab 5 picture! Oh and aren't the new stilt costumes amazing!? So sweet! This year all of them on the floor are on stilts! It is so cool. I miss drill but I don't miss all the stress and injuries ;)
Well... and here we are up date with the holiday season. Me, Camrie and Berlyn had a fun time decorating our cute apartment for Christmas! We even hung up the classic santa shorts! Gotta love it:) Well I am so glad finals went well and I am now home for the holidays! Yayyyyy! I will have to blog about Christmas after the break:) MERRY CHRISTMAS!!!
